F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying rounds for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Prior to the session, it was established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there were still many decisions to be made going into the qualifying round.

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres due to the unpredictable weather conditions, with the sun shining over one part of the circuit and dark clouds looming over the other parts, indicating a possible rain threat. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. However, as the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it through to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen was dealing with damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, but managed to continue.

In Q3’s first runs, an all-British top three emerged with George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run yet to happen at Silverstone, this could all change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to fend off a quicker lap from Hamilton. This resulted in Russell securing his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
