F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, with the wet conditions at Silverstone, there were many uncertainties leading into the qualifying round.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres. The weather was a mix of sunshine over one part of the circuit and looming dark clouds in other areas, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first to take a gamble, heading out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

Threats of more rain at the end of Q1 led to the drivers quickly lining up to hit the track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez swiftly found himself at the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, as both Astons and Alex Albon of Williams made it to the top 10. Nico Hulkenberg, the Haas driver, also made it through. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone saw an all-British top three comprising George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to take place for all, the rankings could potentially change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. This also led to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
