F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, there was still much uncertainty going into the qualifying round, especially with the wet conditions at Silverstone.

The first quarter began with the drivers on intermediate tyres, under a partly sunny sky with a portion of the circuit overshadowed by dark clouds, indicating potential rain. Valtteri Bottas was the initial driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

Threats of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on track to set lap times as quickly as possible. As the track dried up, Perez rapidly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This paved the way for an interesting Q3 session. Both Astons, Williams’ Alex Albon, and Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg made it into the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen managed to continue despite suffering damage from his own excursion into the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3’s first runs, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton – all of British origin – topped the charts. However, with another run still pending at Silverstone, this ranking could potentially change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to outrun Hamilton’s faster lap and secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
