F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, many other factors remained undecided as the qualifying round approached, particularly due to the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter started with the drivers on intermediate tyres. With the sun shining over one part of the circuit and dark clouds looming elsewhere, there was a lingering threat of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers quickly lining up to return to the track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This set up an interesting Q3 session. Both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Nico Hulkenberg from Haas made it to the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, there is still another run to come where these standings could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however Russell managed to resist a quicker lap from Hamilton, securing his first ever home pole at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
