F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Before the session, it was already clear that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there were many uncertainties going into the qualifying.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first quarter began with the drivers on intermediate tyres, under an unpredictable weather of sunlight over one part of the circuit and looming dark clouds elsewhere, hinting at a potential rain. Valtteri Bottas was the pioneer to venture out on slicks.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers scrambling to get back on the track as quickly as possible to set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
An intriguing Q3 session was set up, featuring both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams, all of which made it to the top 10. In addition, Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg also made it through. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen continued despite carrying damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.
In Q3’s first runs, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton – all British – dominated the top three spots. However, with another run still to come at Silverstone, there’s potential for this to change.
Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off Hamilton, who was faster, to secure his first-ever pole position at Silverstone. This also marked a all-British top three for the upcoming Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
