F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The F1 starting grid has been set following qualifying for the 2024 British Grand Prix.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was already established that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, with the wet conditions at Silverstone, there were still many decisions to be made going into qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the circuit was basked in sunlight in some areas while dark clouds loomed in others, hinting at potential rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to use slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

At the end of Q1, the threat of more rain resulted in the drivers lining up to get back on track as quickly as possible to set lap times. Due to the drying track, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This set the stage for an exciting Q3 session, as both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams have managed to reach the top 10. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg also made it, while Max Verstappen was dealing with damage from his journey to the gravel at Copse in Q1. However, he was able to continue.

During the first runs in Q3 at Silverstone, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, dominated the top three. However, there was still another run to go which could potentially change this ranking.

Norris had to pull out of his final lap, but Russell managed to resist a quicker lap from Hamilton to secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
