F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
Following the qualifying rounds for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Before the session, it was established that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, there were many uncertainties going into the qualifying round, especially with the wet conditions at Silverstone.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres. The weather was mixed, with sunlight over a part of the circuit and dark clouds looming elsewhere, indicating a possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led the drivers to rush onto the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. Consequently, as the track dried up, Perez quickly dropped to the end of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
This led to a fascinating Q3 session, where both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg managed to make it to the top 10. Despite suffering damage from his own journey into the gravel at Copse in Q1, Max Verstappen was still able to continue.
In Q3’s first runs, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, made up the top three. However, at Silverstone, another run could change that for everyone.
Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to resist a quicker lap from Hamilton to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
