F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, there were still many things to be determined in qualifying, given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres while the sun shone on one part of the circuit and dark clouds loomed on another part, indicating possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to use slick tyres.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to hurry onto the track to set lap times. Perez quickly fell to the back of the pack as the track dried up.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This arrangement led to a fascinating Q3 session, in which both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams secured a place in the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage after veering into the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

In Q3’s first runs, the top three positions were occupied by British drivers George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run at Silverstone coming up, the positions could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off a quicker lap from Hamilton, securing his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. This achievement also resulted in an all-British top three for Silverstone’s Sunday race.
