F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying rounds, the starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Prior to the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant that much was still to be determined going into qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter started with the drivers on intermediate tyres, as the sun shone over one part of the circuit while dark clouds ominously hung over the other, hinting at the possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to hit the track on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led the drivers to hastily get back on track to set lap times. However, as the track dried up, Perez rapidly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This arrangement led to an engaging Q3 session. Both Astons and Alex Albon from Williams made it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, bearing damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was also able to continue.

In Q3, the initial runs resulted in an all-British top three consisting of George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, there is still another run at Silverstone for all these positions to potentially change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to withstand a quicker lap from Hamilton to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three for Sunday’s Silverstone race.
