F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying rounds.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was already established that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant that there were still many decisions to be made during qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

At the beginning of Q1, drivers initiated with intermediate tyres due to the sun shining over one area of the circuit and dark clouds looming in other areas creating a possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first to brave the conditions on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 resulted in drivers rushing to get back on track and set lap times. Due to the track drying up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to an intriguing Q3 session involving both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg, all of whom had made it into the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage after a detour into the gravel at Copse in Q1, was also able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three including George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, there is another run scheduled that could potentially alter this ranking.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to fend off a quicker lap from Hamilton and bettered his own performance to secure his first ever pole position at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
