F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there was still a significant amount to determine heading into the qualifying round.

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, as the circuit was under varied weather conditions with the sun shining over one area and dark clouds looming over another, indicating a possible threat of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led the drivers to hastily return to the track to set lap times. As the track began to dry, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This created a fascinating Q3 session. Both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it to the top 10, along with Nico Hulkenberg from Haas. Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was still able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three consisting of George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run yet to take place, the standings could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap and secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
