F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been determined after the F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was confirmed that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, many decisions were yet to be made heading into qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the circuit had a mix of sunny and cloudy areas, hinting at possible rainfall. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to quickly line up to get back on track and set lap times. However, as the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it through to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

In Q3’s first runs, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all from Britain, took the top three spots. However, there was another run set to take place at Silverstone, which could alter these standings.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to resist a faster lap from Hamilton, securing his first ever home pole position at Silverstone. This achievement also led to an all-British top three for Silverstone’s Sunday race.
