F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying rounds.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Alpine’s Pierre Gasly would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the qualifying round was still full of uncertainties due to the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers on intermediate tyres, as the sun shone on one part of the circuit while dark clouds loomed elsewhere, signifying the possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to get back on the track to set lap times as quickly as possible. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An engaging Q3 session was set up, with both Astons, Williams’ driver Alex Albon, and Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg making it to the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite having suffered damage following his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to proceed.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an entirely British top three, featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, there is still another run to come where the standings could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off a quicker lap from Hamilton, securing his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. Furthermore, he ensured an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
