F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was already clear that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would begin at the rear of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, with the onset of wet conditions at Silverstone, many decisions were still pending as qualifying approached.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, under a sun shining over one part of the circuit while dark clouds threatened rain elsewhere. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers hastily lining up to return to the track and set lap times. Due to the track drying up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to an interesting Q3 session, where both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial Q3 runs at Silverstone saw a top three comprised entirely of British drivers – George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to come, this could all change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to resist a speedier lap from Hamilton, securing his inaugural home pole at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
