F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Before the session started, it was already established that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone meant there was still a lot to determine heading into the qualifying round.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The first quarter started with the drivers on intermediate tyres, with the sun shining over one part of the circuit and dark clouds looming elsewhere, indicating the possibility of rain. Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led to drivers quickly lining up to return to the track and set lap times as fast as possible. As the track started to dry, Perez swiftly fell behind to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
This created an interesting Q3 session, as both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it into the top 10, along with Haas’s Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, however, was dealing with damage from his own excursion into the gravel at Copse in Q1, but he was still able to continue.
George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, made up the top three in the initial runs at Q3. However, at Silverstone, another run was set to occur where these standings could potentially change.
Norris had to withdraw from his final lap, however, Russell managed to fend off a quicker lap from Hamilton. This allowed Russell to secure his first ever pole position at Silverstone, contributing to an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
