F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been determined after the F1 qualifying rounds.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would be starting at the rear of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there were still many things to be determined heading into the qualifier.

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the circuit experienced mixed weather conditions – sunlight in some areas and looming dark clouds in others, indicating possible rainfall. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led to drivers hastily getting back on the track to set lap times. As the track began to dry up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

The Q3 session was set up intriguingly with both Astons and Williams’ Alex Albon making it to the top 10, alongside Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen, despite suffering damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, was also able to continue.

The initial runs of Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three with George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still ahead, this could potentially change.

Norris was forced to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap, enhancing his performance to secure his first ever home pole position at Silverstone. This achievement has also resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
