F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, the wet conditions at Silverstone left a great deal of uncertainty leading into the qualifying round.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the sun shone over one part of the circuit while dark clouds loomed elsewhere, indicating a possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led the drivers to hurriedly line up to return to the track and set lap times. As the track began to dry up, Perez quickly fell to the rear of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

The set up for Q3 session was intriguing, with both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg making it through to the top 10. Even with damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, Max Verstappen was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three: George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to come, the rankings could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap, securing his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. He also enabled an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
