F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Qualifying for the 2024 British Grand Prix has determined the starting grid for the F1 race.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, many decisions were still to be made entering the qualifying round, particularly with the wet conditions at Silverstone.

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, as the sun shone over one part of the circuit and ominous clouds loomed elsewhere, suggesting the possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to quickly queue up to set their lap times on the track. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This set the stage for an interesting Q3 session. Both Astons, the Williams driven by Alex Albon, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg had advanced to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen continued despite sustaining damage from his trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

The initial runs in Q3 resulted in an all-British top three, featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, Silverstone still has another run to come, and this could potentially change everything.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. In the process, he contributed to an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
