F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying rounds for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was confirmed that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, there was still much to determine during qualifying, particularly given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, as parts of the circuit were bathed in sunlight while other parts were under the shadow of looming dark clouds indicating possible rain. It was Valtteri Bottas who first ventured out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

Threats of more rain towards the end of Q1 led to drivers hastily getting back on track to set lap times. However, the drying track caused Perez to quickly fall to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This set up an interesting Q3 session. Both Astons, Alex Albon’s Williams, and Nico Hulkenberg from Haas made it to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen had suffered damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, but he was still able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone saw an all-British top three with George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run pending, these standings could potentially change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell successfully fended off a faster lap from Hamilton to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also led to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
