F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been established after the F1 qualifying round.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already clear that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, many other decisions were still up in the air heading into qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres, under a partially sunny sky with dark clouds looming in other parts of the circuit, suggesting potential rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to set lap times on the track as quickly as possible. However, due to the track drying up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Astons, Williams’ Alex Albon, and Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg making it to the top 10. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen sustained damage after a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1, but managed to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone saw George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British racers, in the top three. However, there’s still another run to come which could potentially change the current standings.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, but Russell maintained his lead against a quicker lap from Hamilton. This effort allowed him to secure his first-ever pole position at Silverstone. Furthermore, it resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
