F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, many decisions were yet to be made going into the qualifying round, especially given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres. There was a contrast in the weather, with the sun shining over a portion of the circuit and dark clouds looming over the rest, indicating a potential rain threat. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slick tyres.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

Threats of more rain towards the end of Q1 led the drivers to rush onto the track to set lap times as fast as they could. Due to the track drying up, Perez swiftly fell to the end of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up, with both Astons, Alex Albon of Williams and Nico Hulkenberg of Haas making it to the top 10. Max Verstappen, despite carrying damage from his trip to Copse’s gravel in Q1, was able to continue.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone resulted in an all-British top three, consisting of George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run scheduled, the rankings could potentially change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell managed to prevent Hamilton from beating his faster lap. This allowed Russell to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. He also contributed to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
