F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Prior to the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, there were still many uncertainties leading up to the qualifying due to wet conditions at Silverstone.

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunlight illuminating one part of the circuit and ominous dark clouds looming elsewhere, indicating the possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 led to drivers hastily lining up to return to the track and set lap times. As the track began to dry, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This led to an intriguing Q3 session, featuring both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams, all of whom had advanced to the top 10. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg also made it through, while Max Verstappen, despite sustaining damage from his own excursion into the gravel at Copse in Q1, was able to continue.

In Q3, the initial runs resulted in an all-British top three, featuring George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still ahead at Silverstone, there remains a chance for this standing to shift.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell managed to fend off Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
