F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session, it was clear that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, many decisions were still to be made as we headed into qualifying.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The beginning of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with sunlight shining on one part of the circuit while dark clouds loomed elsewhere, indicating the possibility of rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led the drivers to quickly line up to return to the track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez rapidly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This set the stage for an interesting Q3 session, as both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it to the top 10. Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg also made it through, whilst Max Verstappen continued despite suffering damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3’s first runs at Silverstone, an all-British trio including George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton topped the charts. However, the standings could still change, as another run was forthcoming for all.

Norris had to abort his final lap, however Russell managed to maintain his lead against Hamilton’s faster lap. This resulted in Russell securing his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone, as well as contributing to an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
