F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

After the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session began, it was confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would be starting from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, there was still a lot to determine going into qualifying, given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

The first quarter began with the drivers using intermediate tyres due to the weather conditions – sunny in one part of the circuit and dark clouds looming in another, hinting at possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to take the risk of using slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers quickly lining up to get back on track and set lap times. As the track dried up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

An intriguing Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it to the top 10, along with Haas driver, Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen managed to continue despite sustaining damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3, the first runs resulted in an all-British top three featuring George Russell, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. However, there was another run at Silverstone where things could potentially change.

Norris was forced to abandon his final lap, yet Russell managed to outpace Hamilton’s quicker lap to secure his inaugural home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also allowed for a completely British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
