F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix has been determined after the F1 qualifying.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Heading into the qualifying session at Silverstone, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with the wet conditions, there was still a lot to be determined.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The commencement of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, under a sunlit part of the circuit while dark clouds ominously hung over another part, foreboding rain. Valtteri Bottas was the initial driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain towards the end of Q1 prompted the drivers to quickly line up to return to the track and set lap times. As the track began to dry, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This set the stage for an interesting Q3 session. Both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it into the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen also continued despite his car’s damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

The initial runs in Q3 at Silverstone saw George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, in the top three. However, with another run still to come, these standings could potentially change.

Norris had to withdraw from his final lap, but Russell managed to outperform a quicker lap from Hamilton. This achievement allowed him to secure his first home pole at Silverstone. In addition to that, he ensured an all-British top three for Silverstone’s race on Sunday.
