F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Following the qualifying round for the 2024 British Grand Prix, the starting grid for F1 has been established.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Prior to the session, it was confirmed that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would begin at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, a lot remained uncertain heading into the qualifying round, given the wet conditions at Silverstone.

The start of Q1 saw the drivers on intermediate tyres, with a part of the circuit under the sun and dark clouds looming over the other, indicating a potential rain threat. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

Threats of more rain towards the end of Q1 prompted drivers to quickly line up to get back on the track and set lap times. Due to the track drying up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

This established an interesting Q3 session, as both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams made it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen was managing damage from his own foray into the gravel at Copse in Q1, but he managed to continue.

In Q3’s first runs at Silverstone, the top three positions were all held by British drivers – George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, there’s still another run to come where everything could change.

Norris had to abandon his final lap, while Russell managed to outpace Hamilton’s faster lap to secure his first-ever home pole position at Silverstone. This also resulted in an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
