F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?

Qualifying for the 2024 British Grand Prix has established the F1 starting grid.

The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.

Before the session started, it was already confirmed that Pierre Gasly from Alpine would start from the back of the grid due to a full power unit change. However, with wet conditions at Silverstone, there were still many uncertainties heading into the qualifying round.

George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone

The first quarter began with drivers using intermediate tyres, with sunlight shining on one part of the circuit and ominous clouds lurking in other areas, suggesting possible rainfall. Valtteri Bottas was the initial driver to venture out on slicks.

But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.

The threat of more rain at the end of Q1 led drivers to hastily return to the track to set lap times. As the track began to dry up, Perez quickly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.

The Q3 session was set up to be fascinating, with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it to the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen continued despite suffering damage from a trip to the gravel at Copse in Q1.

In Q3’s first runs, the top three spots were all occupied by British racers – George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton. However, with another run still to come at Silverstone, the rankings could potentially change.

Norris couldn’t complete his final lap, yet Russell managed to outpace Hamilton for his first-ever pole position at Silverstone. This achievement also led to an all-British top three for Sunday’s race at Silverstone.
