F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 British Grand Prix?
The starting grid for the 2024 British Grand Prix F1 has been established after qualifying.
The F1 starting grid has been put in place following qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Saturday.
Prior to the session, it was already established that Pierre Gasly of Alpine would start at the back of the grid due to a complete power unit change. However, many outcomes remained uncertain going into the qualifying round, especially given the rainy conditions at Silverstone.
George Russell leads all-British top three in qualifying at Silverstone
The beginning of Q1 saw drivers on intermediate tyres due to varying weather conditions – sunshine on one part of the circuit and looming dark clouds elsewhere suggesting possible rain. Valtteri Bottas was the first driver to take the bold move of heading out on slicks.
But the red flag came out for Sergio Perez at Copse, who beached himself in the gravel as he got himself onto the wet part of the track, ran wide and spun around backwards. He waited to try and get pushed back on track, but wasn’t allowed back in, but that was not to be.
Threats of additional rain at the end of Q1 led to drivers rushing to hit the track and establish lap times as soon as possible. As the track dried up, Perez rapidly fell to the back of the field.

Q2 saw the track return to more representative conditions, but there was a significant loss to the session as Charles Leclerc was knocked out at the last moment by the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, with conditions still improving all the time.
An interesting Q3 session was set up with both Astons and Alex Albon’s Williams making it into the top 10, along with Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. Max Verstappen continued despite suffering damage from veering off into the gravel at Copse in Q1.
In Q3’s first runs, George Russell, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton, all British, dominated the top three positions. However, there was still another run at Silverstone which could potentially alter these standings.
Norris was forced to abandon his final lap, however, Russell managed to fend off a swifter lap from Hamilton, securing his first ever home pole at Silverstone. This achievement also resulted in an all-British top three at Silverstone for Sunday’s race.
