F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

It initially seemed like Verstappen had secured pole position in his final run after gaining a few more tenths, but Norris outdid him by delivering a 1:11.383, surpassing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s to claim the pole for himself.

The second row will be entirely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton surpassing George Russell for the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will be leading on the third row, ahead of his Ferrari teammate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following the imposition of his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is determined to break into the top 10 and secure points-paying positions. He will spearhead this effort with Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas, who will be alongside him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll from Aston Martin, Alonso’s team-mate, will form the seventh row. They will be ahead of Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen in Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB row nine, with Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant of Williams effectively making up the back row for the Spanish Grand Prix. After a decision to change his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon has been relegated to the pit lane.
