Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to have secured pole position in his final run after finding a couple more tenths. However, Norris outperformed him by delivering a 1:11.383, beating Verstappen by a mere 0.02s and claiming the pole position for himself.

The second row will be entirely Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outpacing George Russell for only the second time this season. The third row will feature Charles Leclerc ahead of his Ferrari teammate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the attempt to penetrate the top 10 and secure points-paying positions. This comes after he was given a three-place grid penalty back in Canada. Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas will be joining him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They will be followed by Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen in the Haas.

In the ninth row of all-RB, Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo, whereas Alex Albon from Williams and Logan Sargeant form the last row at the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon had to return to the pit lane because his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
