Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed as though Verstappen might have secured the pole position after improving his time in his final run. However, Norris delivered a 1:11.383, surpassing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s to clinch the pole position for himself.

The second row will be completely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outperforming George Russell for only the second time this season. On row three, Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty issued in Canada, Sergio Perez is set to lead the push to break into the top 10 and earn points. Valtteri Bottas of Sauber will be next to him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s teammate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber vehicle and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

In the all-RB row nine, Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo, while Alex Albon from Williams and Logan Sargeant will essentially make up the last row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was sent to the pit lane after his team decided to alter his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
