F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

After shaving off a few more tenths in his final run, it seemed Verstappen might have secured pole position. However, Norris posted a 1:11.383, surpassing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s and claiming the pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will occupy the second row in an all-Mercedes lineup, with Hamilton outqualifying Russell for only the second time this season. On the third row, Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari teammate and local hero, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to crack the top 10 and score points, notwithstanding his three-place grid penalty from Canada, with Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas joining him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg of Haas and Lance Stroll from Alonso’s Aston Martin team will make up the seventh row, with Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas following them.

Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo in the all-RB row nine at the Spanish Grand Prix, followed by Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant in the last row. After his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was moved to the pit lane.
