Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

It initially appeared as though Verstappen might secure pole position after shaving a few more tenths off his final run. However, Norris managed to pull off a 1:11.383, edging out Verstappen by a mere 0.02s to clinch the pole position for himself.

Lewis Hamilton outqualified George Russell for only the second time this season, securing an all-Mercedes second row. Ahead on row three is Charles Leclerc, with his Ferrari team-mate and local favourite, Carlos Sainz.

The Spanish Grand Prix grid’s top 10 is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s teammate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber team and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB row nine, followed by Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant who will essentially make up the last row at the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon fell back to the pit lane after his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
