F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed Verstappen might have secured pole position after gaining a few more tenths in his final run. However, Norris delivered a 1:11.383, beating Verstappen by a mere 0.02s and snatching the pole position for himself.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will make up an all-Mercedes second row, with Hamilton outqualifying Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc outperformed his Ferrari team-mate and local favourite Carlos Sainz, placing them on the third row.

The top 10 of the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and earn points. He will be accompanied by Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Aston Martin team-mate of Alonso, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu driving the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo occupy the all-RB row nine, with Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant forming the back row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Following a change in his Energy Store and Control Electronics by the team, Albon was moved to the pit lane.
