F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed poised to secure the pole after his final run, but Norris managed to outperform him by a slim margin of 0.02s, clocking a 1:11.383 and claiming the pole for himself.

The second row will be entirely made up of Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outperforming George Russell for only the second time this season. On the third row, Charles Leclerc will be leading, ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favourite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty applied in Canada, Sergio Perez will spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and score points. Valtteri Bottas from Sauber will join him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They are ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is ahead of Daniel Ricciardo in the all-RB ninth row, followed by Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant at the back for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon fell back to the pit lane as his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
