Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It appeared that Verstappen might have secured pole position after shaving a few more tenths off his final run. However, Norris delivered a 1:11.383, outperforming Verstappen by a mere 0.02s to claim the pole position for himself.

The second row will be completely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outperforming George Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari team-mate Carlos Sainz, the local favourite, on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty applied in Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and score points. Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas will be joining him in the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Aston Martin team-mate of Alonso, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu in the other Sauber car and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

The all-RB row nine is led by Yuki Tsunoda, followed by Daniel Ricciardo. Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams will essentially make up the last row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was forced to drop to the pit lane as the team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
