Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to potentially secure pole position after shaving a few tenths off his final run. However, Norris managed to beat him by a minuscule 0.02s with a 1:11.383 time, snatching the pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton has outqualified George Russell for only the second time this season, ensuring an all-Mercedes second row. The third row will feature Charles Leclerc ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Sergio Perez will spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and secure points-paying positions, despite his three-place grid penalty from Canada. He will be joined on the sixth row by Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll from Aston Martin, Alonso’s teammate, will form the seventh row. They are ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

In the all-RB ninth row, Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo, with the back row for the Spanish Grand Prix essentially made up by Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant. After the team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was demoted to the pit lane.
