F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It initially appeared that Verstappen might secure the pole position after improving slightly in his final run. However, Norris outperformed him by a slim 0.02s with a 1:11.383 time, securing the pole position for himself.

The second row will be entirely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton qualifying higher than George Russell for only the second time this season. On the third row, Charles Leclerc outqualified his Ferrari teammate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following the enforcement of his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the attempt to break into the top 10 and points-paying positions. Valtteri Bottas from Sauber will be alongside him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

In the all-RB row nine for the Spanish Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda is ahead of Daniel Ricciardo, while Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams will essentially make up the back row. After the team decided to change his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was sent to the pit lane.
