F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

After improving his time by a few tenths in his final attempt, it seemed Verstappen might secure the pole position. However, Norris managed to record a 1:11.383, beating Verstappen by a slim margin of 0.02s and securing the pole position for himself.

The second row will be entirely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outqualifying George Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz, who will be on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is determined to break into the top 10 and score points, with Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas joining him in the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, who is Alonso’s teammate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They will be ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber team and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda leads Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB row nine, with Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant making up the back row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was relegated to the pit lane following the team’s decision to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
