Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to have secured pole position after his final run, where he found a few more tenths. However, Norris surpassed him with a 1:11.383, outdoing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s and claiming the pole for himself.

The second row will be all-Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton beating George Russell in qualifications for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will lead the third row, ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri and Fernando Alonso.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will take up row seven. They will be ahead of Zhou Guanyu, who is in the second Sauber, and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

In the ninth row, all-RB, Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo. Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams will essentially constitute the last row at the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was sent to the pit lane due to the team’s decision to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
