F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to have secured pole position after improving his time in the final run, but Norris managed to beat him by just 0.02s with a time of 1:11.383, snatching the pole for himself.

The second row will be entirely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton managing to outqualify George Russell for only the second time this season. On row three, Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local champion, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri and Fernando Alonso.

Sergio Perez is set to lead the pursuit of breaking into the top 10 and achieving points-paying positions. This follows his three-place grid penalty imposed in Canada. Alongside him on the sixth row will be Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll who is Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin will make up the seventh row. They will be ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

In all-RB row nine, Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo, while the last row for the Spanish Grand Prix will be occupied by Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant. After the team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was relegated to the pit lane.
