Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed as though Verstappen might have secured pole position after shaving off a few more tenths in his last run. However, Norris came through with a 1:11.383, beating Verstappen by a mere 0.02s to seize the pole position for himself.

The second row will be entirely occupied by Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton outperforming George Russell for the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will be ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite Carlos Sainz on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll from Aston Martin, Alonso’s teammate, will make up the seventh row. They are ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

In row nine of the all-RB line-up, Yuki Tsunoda leads Daniel Ricciardo. Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant of Williams will essentially make up the last row for the Spanish Grand Prix. After his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was relegated to the pit lane.
