F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to have secured pole position after improving his final run by a few tenths. However, Norris outperformed him by delivering a 1:11.383, beating Verstappen’s time by a narrow margin of just 0.02s and claiming the pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will constitute an all-Mercedes second row, with Hamilton outqualifying Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will be ahead of his Ferrari teammate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz, on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty issued in Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the endeavor to break into the top 10 and score points. He will have Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas beside him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up row seven. They will be ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber team and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

In an all-RB row nine, Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo, while Alex Albon from Williams and Logan Sargeant make up the rear row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was moved to the pit lane following the team’s decision to change his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
