Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed Verstappen might secure the pole after gaining a few more tenths in his final run. However, Norris outpaced him by just 0.02s with a 1:11.383, snatching the pole for himself.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will make up the all-Mercedes second row, with Hamilton outqualifying Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc will be on the third row, ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez will spearhead the effort to crack the top 10 and secure points-paying positions. Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas will join him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

The ninth row is entirely filled by RB, with Yuki Tsunoda leading Daniel Ricciardo. In the Spanish Grand Prix, the last row is practically made up of Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant. After his team chose to alter his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was relegated to the pit lane.
