Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed as though Verstappen had secured pole after gaining a few more tenths in his final run. However, Norris delivered a 1:11.383, surpassing Verstappen by a mere 0.02s and seizing the pole position for himself.

Lewis Hamilton out-qualified George Russell for only the second time this season, placing both of them in an all-Mercedes second row. On the third row, Charles Leclerc will be ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso round out the top 10 on the grid for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez will spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and secure points-paying positions. He will have Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas with him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They will be ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber team and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

The ninth row is entirely comprised of RB racers, with Yuki Tsunoda leading Daniel Ricciardo. Meanwhile, Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant, both from Williams, will essentially make up the last row in the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon fell to the pit lane after his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
