Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

It seemed like Verstappen might secure pole after shaving off a few more tenths in his final run. However, Norris outperformed him with a 1:11.383, beating Verstappen’s time by a slim 0.02s and claiming the pole position for himself.

The second row will be entirely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outqualifying George Russell for only the second time this season. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc has outqualified his Ferrari team-mate and home favorite, Carlos Sainz, securing the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.
