F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

It seemed Verstappen might have secured the pole after shaving off a few more tenths in his final run, but Norris outshined him by clocking 1:11.383, just 0.02s faster, to claim the pole position for himself.

The second row will be entirely occupied by Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton out-qualifying George Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc is leading his Ferrari team-mate Carlos Sainz, the home hero, on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and score points, after the implementation of his three-place grid penalty from Canada. He will be joined on the sixth row by Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They will be ahead of Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen in the Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda leads Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB row nine, with Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams forming the rear for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was relegated to the pit lane after his team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
