F1 starting grid: What is the grid order for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix?

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle. 

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to have pole position secured after improving his time in his final run. However, Norris outdid him by delivering a 1:11.383, a mere 0.02s faster, securing the pole position for himself.

The second row will be comprised entirely of Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton outqualifying George Russell for only the second time this season. Charles Leclerc outqualified his Ferrari team-mate and local hero Carlos Sainz, placing them on the third row.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following the enforcement of his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez will spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and earn points. Valtteri Bottas from Sauber will be accompanying him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB ninth row, with Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant of Williams essentially forming the last row for the Spanish Grand Prix. After deciding to switch his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon was relegated to the pit lane.
