Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya main straight.

Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

With Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren’s Norris joined by the Ferrari and Mercedes duos seemingly in the battle for pole, it was Verstappen and Norris who emerged from this pack as Norris secured that P1 grid slot for Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to be in line for the pole position after shaving a few more tenths of a second off his final run. However, Norris upset the balance by delivering a 1:11.383, beating Verstappen’s time by a mere 0.02s to secure the pole position for himself.

Lewis Hamilton outqualified George Russell for only the second time this season, resulting in an all-Mercedes second row. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz, on the third row.

Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso round out the top 10 on the grid for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and positions that yield points. This follows his three-place grid penalty applied in Canada, with Valtteri Bottas from Sauber joining him on the sixth row.

Nico Hulkenberg of Haas and Lance Stroll, who is Alonso’s team-mate from Aston Martin, will make up the seventh row. They are ahead of Zhou Guanyu from the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

Yuki Tsunoda is leading Daniel Ricciardo in an all-RB ninth row, followed by Williams’ Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant who will essentially make up the last row for the Spanish Grand Prix. Albon was moved to the pit lane after the team decided to replace his Energy Store and Control Electronics.
