Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen to pole for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in a thrilling qualifying battle.

Lando Norris snatches Spanish GP pole from Max Verstappen

Verstappen seemed to have secured the pole position after gaining a few more tenths in his final run. However, Norris outperformed him by clocking a 1:11.383, just 0.02s faster than Verstappen, and claimed the pole position for himself.

Lewis Hamilton outqualified George Russell for only the second time this season, resulting in an all-Mercedes second row. Meanwhile, on row three, Charles Leclerc is ahead of his Ferrari team-mate and local favorite, Carlos Sainz.

The top 10 for the Spanish Grand Prix grid is completed by Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, and Fernando Alonso.

Following his three-place grid penalty from Canada, Sergio Perez is set to spearhead the effort to break into the top 10 and earn points. He will be joined on the sixth row by Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas.

Nico Hulkenberg from Haas and Lance Stroll, Alonso’s Aston Martin teammate, will make up the seventh row, followed by Zhou Guanyu in the second Sauber and Kevin Magnussen from Haas.

In the all-RB ninth row, Yuki Tsunoda has taken the lead over Daniel Ricciardo, while Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant from Williams will essentially form the rear row for the Spanish Grand Prix. After the team decided to modify his Energy Store and Control Electronics, Albon fell back to the pit lane.
